The Challenge: Take a daily object, boring task, or common routine and reinvent it. Find the magic hiding in the everyday things we all take for granted.
Why This Matters: Everyone has mundane routines—this is your chance to make them extraordinary. Innovation doesn't always need to be cutting-edge; sometimes it's about reimagining what's already in front of us.
2. Art, Code, & Chaos
The Challenge: Create something that is useless but beautiful, or useful because it's beautiful. Build at the intersection of technology and human expression—where function meets feeling.
Why This Matters: Not every project needs a business model. This track celebrates pure creativity and experimentation, giving designers, artists, and coders permission to play without constraints.
3. Retro-Future
The Challenge: What if a past era had today's technology? Or what if today's tech wore a retro aesthetic? Explore the collision of nostalgia and imagined futures.
Why This Matters: It's a stylistic playground with clear creative direction but total technical freedom. Build something that feels like yesterday and tomorrow at the same time.
4. Hack the System
The Challenge: Find a system that's broken, inefficient, or unfair—then build a tool to fix it. Target bureaucratic, social, or digital systems that need disruption.
Why This Matters: This channels the classic hacker ethos of challenging the status quo. These projects have the potential for real-world impact, empowering people to navigate systems designed to exclude them.
5. Tech for the Margins
The Challenge: Build technology that bridges the gap between capability and opportunity for underserved communities. Create tools that address real barriers in accessibility, communication, mobility, or daily independence. Design for agency, not charity.
Why This Matters: Accessibility isn't niche—1 in 6 people worldwide has a significant disability, and 96.8% of top websites fail accessibility standards. By building for the margins, you create solutions with universal impact. This is about removing systemic barriers and designing for the full spectrum of human experience.
